Denis Villeneuve’s Dune 3 Officially Confirmed

The third installment of the Dune series, one of the most important science fiction films, has been officially confirmed. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, Dune: Part Three will be released in December 2026. This new installment in the series will be based on Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel Dune Messiah. The film, which will explore Paul Atreides’ empire, will have a distinct identity independent of the first two films.

Dune 3 Will Be Shot with IMAX Cameras

Although the new film’s title was previously speculated to be “Dune Messiah,” it has now been officially listed as “Dune: Part Three.” While director Villeneuve will shoot the film with IMAX cameras, it has been announced that not all scenes will be in the format. IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond previously stated that the film would be shot entirely with IMAX cameras, but this information was later corrected.

Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya will return as leads in the cast. It has also been confirmed that Jason Momoa, who appeared in the first film, will return for the third. Villeneuve stated in a statement that this new film shouldn’t be seen as the final installment of a trilogy. He believes the first two films formed a unified whole, and the third will have a different narrative structure.

Filming on the production, backed by Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment, will begin shortly. Villeneuve, who is also planning to reboot the James Bond series with Amazon MGM, will first complete Dune: Part Three. Fans of the series are eagerly awaiting this new installment’s visual and narrative departure from the previous installments.
