Denuvo Crisis Begins in Borderlands 4

Borderlands 4 is set to launch on consoles and PC in just a few days. However, the fact that the game’s Steam version will feature Denuvo protection has sparked an unexpected debate in the community. The long-awaited new installment in the series has already given way to criticism and debate.

Borderlands 4 and the Denuvo Debate

Denuvo is software used for years to prevent pirated copies of big-budget games. However, it has long been a controversial topic among gamers due to claims that it impacts performance. The fact that Borderlands 4 will also release with Denuvo has created a significant buzz, especially in the Steam community. Many users argue that this choice could negatively impact the game’s performance.

The backlash against pirated players, however, came from a different angle. Some users say they won’t even try pirated Borderlands 4 because they were dissatisfied with their experiences with Borderlands 3 and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. This view is reinforced by ironic comments that “they wouldn’t even play the game anyway,” undermining Denuvo’s original purpose.

Interestingly, the recent release of Hollow Knight: Silksong without Denuvo, and despite being cracked the same day, encouraged pirate communities to purchase the game. This demonstrates a peculiar ethical framework for pirated players. In the case of Borderlands 4, this attitude appears to have reversed.

Among series fans, the main debate revolves around Denuvo’s impact on performance. Some players argue that this software is necessary for security, while others believe it can cause FPS drops and freezing issues. Gearbox has yet to issue an official statement.

With Borderlands 4’s release just a few days away, the Denuvo issue has become a major oversight for the game. The debate is likely to intensify with the first post-release performance tests. It’s already a matter of curiosity how the new game in the series will fare under the shadow of the Denuvo crisis.
