Diablo Lead Rod Fergusson Leaves Blizzard

Rod Fergusson, who served as general manager of the Diablo series for five years, announced his departure from Blizzard. In a social media post, he stated that after propelling the Diablo series forward with four major launches, it was time to turn a new leaf.

Fergusson joined Blizzard in 2020 and previously held key roles on the Gears of War series under the Xbox and Epic Games umbrella. In his post, he said, “The teams are poised for success and have exciting projects ahead of them. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together. I can’t wait to see what’s next for Diablo and for me.”

Blizzard president Johanna Faries thanked Fergusson, saying, “Leading a series like Diablo requires rare talent, vision, and collaboration. Sanctuary’s future is brighter thanks to his contributions.” Xbox boss Phil Spencer, on the other hand, said, “You brought power, fire, and vision to one of gaming’s most iconic franchises. It was wonderful to play Diablo IV with you.”

Who will take over the Diablo franchise after Fergusson’s departure has not yet been announced. Blizzard states that it will continue to develop the series with new content and projects in the coming period. The studio’s message is that the Diablo team will continue to thrive despite Fergusson’s departure.

Diablo fans are eager to see what direction the new management will take, particularly regarding the future of Diablo IV and the planned expansion packs. Fergusson’s departure is seen as a significant turning point in the series’ development.
