Disney Puts Three Sequels on Hold
While Disney‘s live-action films based on its classic animations have been receiving a lot of attention in recent years, it is claimed that some sequels have been quietly canceled. According to a new report, the studio has put some long-awaited films on hold. This has raised questions about projects that fans were excited about.
Disney Puts Three Major Productions on Hold
According to information shared by DisInsider, Maleficent 3, Aladdin 2 and The Jungle Book 2 are no longer in active development. Maleficent 3, which is expected to star Angelina Jolie, has been on the agenda for a long time. However, according to recent developments, the project has fallen silent. Jolie’s criticisms of Hollywood and the studio’s changes in priorities may have prevented the project from moving forward.
A similar situation applies to Aladdin 2. The first film, directed by Guy Ritchie in 2019, was a huge success, grossing over $1 billion worldwide. Although preparations for the sequel have begun, recent statements from the team are not promising. Lead actor Mena Massoud’s statement in 2023, “I have no idea what’s going on,” reinforced the uncertainty of the project.
The Jungle Book 2, on the other hand, has been on hold for almost 10 years. The first film, directed by Jon Favreau, grossed $966 million. However, the sequel was put on the back burner when the director turned to The Lion King. The lack of recent updates suggests that the project has been shelved completely.
While it remains unclear whether Disney will revisit these projects, the confirmation of a Lilo & Stitch sequel shows that the studio is shifting its focus in different directions.
