DOOM Director Responds to Woke Ages Reactions

DOOM: The Dark Ages, the new game in the DOOM series, will be released on May 15, 2025. However, the game has been the target of criticisms called “Woke Ages” before its release. The reason for this is the game’s new difficulty settings that allow players to customize their experience. Players will be able to play the game the way they want thanks to various sliders that can increase or decrease the difficulty level. While this situation has received backlash from some circles, the game’s director Hugo Martin responded to these criticisms through a video.

Difficulty Settings in DOOM: The Dark Ages

Hugo Martin stated that these new difficulty settings are not only intended to make the game easier, but also offer more customization and replayability. Martin said, “These sliders allow you to make the game both accessible for beginners and more challenging for experienced players. If you prefer to slow down the game, you also have the option to increase the difficulty. This allows players to experience the classic DOOM feeling in different ways.”

Martin stated that these new features further enhance the classic DOOM “three-dimensional bullet hell” style. For example, players can make the game more strategic by decreasing the attack speed and increasing the power of their attacks. This allows players to explore the game’s mechanics in depth, beyond just killing zombies.

The game’s director firmly rejected the criticisms of the “Woke Ages”. Martin said, “These settings are there just to provide more options. In addition to making the game accessible to everyone, it also offers a unique experience for hardcore players.” He also added that these sliders increase the replayability of the game and offer a new experience each time with different combinations.

DOOM: The Dark Ages will meet players on May 15, 2025. The game’s difficulty settings are aimed not only at traditional DOOM fans, but also at players new to the series. While Hugo Martin’s statements aim to calm the criticism, the new mechanics offered by the game seem to create excitement among players. This new installment of DOOM aims to meet the needs of modern gamers while preserving the series’ legacy.
