Bowser, frequently seen in Nintendo Directs and a gamers’ favorite, served during the company’s most critical periods, witnessing the Switch and Switch 2 eras. According to Nintendo’s official announcement, Doug Bowser will retire on December 31, 2025. Devon Pritchard, a senior executive at the company, will take over as president. Pritchard currently serves as Vice President of Revenue, Marketing, and Consumer Experience at Nintendo of America.

In his first statement, Pritchard emphasized that Bowser had been a great mentor to him. He stated that he wants to carry Nintendo’s deep legacy into the future and aims to grow the brand with surprises for both its loyal fan base and new players.

The change of role isn’t limited to the chairman’s position. Satoru Shibata, a key figure at Nintendo’s Japan headquarters, is joining NOA as CEO. This move is seen as a strategic step to further strengthen the company’s presence in the United States.

In his farewell statement, Doug Bowser stated that his passion for gaming, which began with Donkey Kong, has been lifelong and that becoming president of Nintendo of America was a great honor. Bowser, who stated that he will end his successful career with pride, expressed his satisfaction with handing over the position.

It remains to be seen what roadmap Nintendo of America’s new management team will chart in the coming period. Decisions made, particularly in the post-Switch 2 era, are likely to directly impact the brand’s position in the global market.
