Dragon Age: The Veilguard Sales Unsatisfy EA
EA’s highly anticipated Dragon Age: The Veilguard reached 1.5 million players in the first two months. However, this number fell well short of the company’s expectations of 3 million. The game, which was released on October 31, 2024, ranked sixth on the list of best-selling games in the US in its first three days. Despite this, lower-than-expected player interest and sales figures led EA to revise its financial expectations.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard and Expectations
EA had set high goals for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. However, the game failed to reach the success of rival titles such as Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth and Dragon’s Dogma II during their launch period. The fact that the game was discounted from the first days and the changes in BioWare’s management team show that the project is facing difficulties. In particular, the recent departure of the game’s director Corinne Busche from the studio reveals the difficulties in the development process.
Compared to previous games in the Dragon Age series, The Veilguard’s sales and player engagement figures were lower. However, the game received positive reviews from critics. Most gaming platforms described the game as “a game that renews and revitalizes the series,” noting that the fighting mechanics, character writing, and storytelling were prominent.
In addition to the game’s failure to meet expectations, EA announced that other games, such as EA Sports FC 25, also fell short of targets. This led the company to lower its growth expectations for fiscal year 2025. EA revised its projected growth for the end of the year to “a moderate decline.” While Dragon Age: The Veilguard introduced new characters and stories for fans of the series, its sales performance affected EA’s financial targets.
