Dune: Awakening Enters Beta

Combining the science fiction and survival genres, Dune: Awakening is facing players with a huge beta process before its full release. Funcom announced that the game, which has been tested in closed beta for a long time, will organize its most widely attended beta event to date in May. Inspired by Frank Herbert’s iconic universe, the production will offer an open-world and multiplayer adventure set in the harsh deserts of Arrakis.

Dune: Awakening Beta Schedule and Details

Dune: Awakening’s large-scale beta test will take place between May 9-12. Funcom announced that they will receive much more players for this beta process than previous tests, and that “tens of thousands” of people will be given beta access keys. Unlike previous closed betas, this time players will not be required to sign any non-disclosure agreements (NDAs); meaning that all gameplay footage can be freely shared.

During the beta process, players will be able to experience a large portion of the game’s first story section while trying to survive in the vast sand seas of Arrakis. Funcom states that this first section will offer approximately 20 hours of gameplay. Players will move forward under the threat of sandworms, protect themselves from sandstorms and try to discover the hidden secrets of the desert.

Players who want to participate in the beta process have several options. It is possible to visit the game’s page on Steam and click the “Request Access” button. In addition, thousands of additional beta keys will be distributed during the Global LAN Party broadcast to be held on May 10. This event will also include chats with developers and new content demonstrations.

Dune: Awakening will be released on Steam with its full version on June 10. The Xbox Series X/S and PS5 versions will meet players at a later date. Those who have experienced the game before say that the Dune universe has been gamified in the most realistic way so far. Details such as the shaking ground caused by sandworms and the sudden outbreak of sandstorms turn the atmosphere into a very powerful experience.
