Duskbloods Debate Grows

FromSoftware, the giant name of the Soulslike world, is taking a completely different path this time with its new game Duskbloods. The game, which at first glance gave the impression of Bloodborne 2, divided players into two with its PvPvE structure. This new multiplayer-focused step of the studio, known especially for its single-player experiences, ignited serious discussions in the industry. Gloomwood developer Dave Oshry reacted quite harshly to this situation.

Duskbloods Debate Grows

Reactions to Duskbloods Are Getting Stronger

Following the announcement of Duskbloods, disappointment as well as excitement came to the fore on social media. The game, which is thought to offer a Bloodborne-like experience with its Soulslike gameplay and steampunk atmosphere, will actually be in a PvPvE format. Players will win matches by either defeating each other or defeating a powerful boss. This structure gave rise to the idea that FromSoftware will move away from its classic single-player narratives.

The most striking statement of the discussion came from Dave Oshry, the founder of New Blood Interactive, known for independent productions such as Gloomwood and Ultrakill. Oshry stated that games such as Escape from Tarkov transformed the industry and openly expressed his discomfort with Duskbloods by saying, “Tarkov has caused irreparable damage to the gaming industry. Not everything needs to be an extraction shooter.”

However, the statements from FromSoftware did not confirm all of these criticisms. While the head of the studio, Hidetaka Miyazaki, admitted that Duskbloods is an online multiplayer experience, he emphasized that this orientation will not be permanent. Miyazaki stated that the studio will continue with single-player focused projects and will maintain their traditional style.

On the other hand, Duskbloods may offer a different structure than classic extraction shooters. The game will feature character customization, a central base, and systems that will provide gains even if the match is lost. Along with battle royale-like elements, boss-focused alternative scenarios will also be offered to players. However, since the game’s exact release date has been announced as 2026, we will have to wait a little longer to see how this experience will shape up.
