Dying Light 2 Team Pulls Plugs On Two Games

Things don’t seem to be going well for Techland. The Polish-based studio behind Dying Light 2 has officially announced that it has canceled two new game projects. The company has been facing millions of dollars in losses over the last two years, and the timing of this decision has caused concern among gamers. One of the canceled games was a fantasy action game called “Project Cornerstone,” inspired by Star Wars.

They Focused on Dying Light: The Beast

Techland stated in a statement after the cancellation of the projects that this decision did not result in layoffs. While the developers were shifted to different projects, the studio’s focus turned to its new game called Dying Light: The Beast. The studio announced that it will share more details about its future plans after the release of this game, which is being developed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

These developments coincide with the increasing uncertainty in the gaming world. Microsoft recently made major layoffs affecting the Halo team, while Sony canceled ten live service projects in just three years. A God of War project was among these cancellations. The fluctuations in the industry show that even big series can be at risk.

Techland’s adventure, which began in 1991, has led to great success, especially with survival-themed games such as Dying Light and Dead Island. There are also rumors that a new sequel is being worked on for Call of Juarez, one of the studio’s old games. However, for now, the studio’s priority is Dying Light: The Beast, which is waiting to be released to gamers.

In 2023, Techland’s majority stake was purchased by China-based technology giant Tencent. This acquisition was recorded as the largest merger and acquisition deal in Polish history. However, this development, which was described as the “beginning of a new era”, seems to be insufficient to overcome the financial problems Techland is currently facing.
