EA Rejects Dragon Age Remaster Offer

A project that could have excited fans of the Dragon Age series was shelved due to a negative response from Electronic Arts. BioWare wanted to remaster the first three Dragon Age games and port them to modern platforms, similar to Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, but this idea was repeatedly rejected by EA.

Dragon Age Remaster Dream Won’t Become a Reality Yet

Former Dragon Age producer Mark Darrah stated that BioWare planned to remaster the first three games of the series under the title “The Champion’s Trilogy.” This package aimed to present Origins, Dragon Age 2, and Inquisition with modern graphics and technical improvements. However, EA rejected the offer, citing its reluctance to accept remasters.

Darrah stated that Dragon Age required a much more challenging remastering process than Mass Effect. He particularly noted that the series’ first game, Origins, required a comprehensive remaster, requiring additional resources and staff. This was reportedly a factor in EA’s rejection of the project.

It was also revealed that BioWare had previously considered various development options for Origins, including a remake. However, neither project materialized, and the studio is currently working on an entirely new Mass Effect game.

Consequently, it seems unlikely that Dragon Age fans will see official remasters of the series’ classic games anytime soon. However, Darrah’s statements once again demonstrate that BioWare is willing to pursue this, but the final decision rests with EA.
