EA’s FIFA Series Will Become History This Month
The separation process, which began with the termination of the licensing agreement between Electronic Arts and FIFA, officially concludes with the closure of FIFA 23. EA will continue to release its football games under the EA Sports FC brand, and FIFA 23 will mark the company’s final release under this name.
FIFA 23 Servers to Shut Down on October 30
According to a statement on EA’s official service updates page, FIFA 23’s online services will be discontinued on all platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Players will be able to continue playing the game offline, but modes like Ultimate Team, Pro Clubs, and online matchmaking will no longer be available.
With this development, the EA FIFA brand officially becomes history. The EA Sports FC era, which began in 2023, has now become the company’s sole football brand. Despite losing the FIFA name, EA states that it is committed to “maintaining the quality players have become accustomed to.”
Meanwhile, the FIFA brand is not sitting idle. Rumors circulating suggest that 2K Games may be preparing to develop its future main football game by forming a new partnership with FIFA. In response to this potential competition, EA referenced its potential rival by saying, “We know how difficult it is to make a football game.”
With the shutdown of FIFA 23’s servers, the iconic slogan “EA Sports – It’s in the Game” will also be obsolete along with the FIFA name. A new era in football gaming is dawning—one shaped by the potential rivalry between EA Sports FC and 2K FIFA.
