Electronic Arts Pulls Plug on Four of Its Games
Electronic Arts is a company frequently in the news for its surprising decisions in the gaming industry. Its latest announcement revealed that four games, released years ago but still hold a special place in people’s minds, will be permanently shut down. This announcement is particularly concerning for racing fans and has once again brought into question EA’s past stance.
Why Is Electronic Arts Shutting Down Its Games?
The first game Electronic Arts will be shutting down was Dirt Showdown, released in 2012. With its arcade-style gameplay, the game, which reached a wide audience at the time, left a lasting impression on many gamers on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Along with Dirt 3, it has been added to the list of those slated for closure. While this 2011 game is remembered as one of the series’ most beloved titles, it will no longer receive official support.
Another title on the closure list is Grid Autosport. Released in 2014, the game was playable on a wide range of devices, including the Switch and mobile platforms. However, declining player numbers, rising server costs, and licensing issues have challenged the game’s future. Grid 2, released in 2013, will share the same fate, ending official support.
Beyond these four titles, EA previously shut down Anthem, released in 2019. Anthem, which quickly became a major disappointment, is scheduled to be shut down in early 2026. This will effectively erase a total of five EA games from existence in the first months of next year. This clearly highlights the company’s new strategy.
While most of the titles to be shut down hold nostalgic value, this decision won’t have a significant impact on the wider audience, as they lack an active player base. Nevertheless, this development is a significant indicator of which games EA will invest in and which it will discard in the long term. Players are eagerly awaiting how the company’s new policies will impact their favorite series.
