Eyes of Wakanda to Release Earlier Than Expected
The journey into the deep-rooted lands of the Marvel universe begins a little earlier. Disney+ has decided to release the first four episodes of Eyes of Wakanda simultaneously. Originally expected to premiere at the end of the month, the new announcement has brought its schedule forward by more than three weeks. This surprising move is being interpreted as a sign of confidence in the series’ thematic depth and creative team.
Eyes of Wakanda Looks at Wakanda’s History from a Different Perspective
Produced by Black Panther director Ryan Coogler, Eyes of Wakanda takes viewers into the untold history of Wakanda. The series focuses on Wakandan warriors traveling the globe to retrieve lost vibranium artifacts. The stories are presented in a semi-anthological structure, set across different time periods and geographies.
The first episode follows Noni (voice of Winnie Harlow), a former member of the Dora Milaje. Set in 1260 BCE, Noni pursues a rebel who exploits Wakanda’s technology and covets the island of Crete. This character appears in the series as a warlord nicknamed “The Lion,” and the conflict with him is a pivotal moment that influences the series’ overall narrative.
According to director Todd Harris, the series presents a narrative that questions how history is written, both personally and relative. Building on the adage “History is written by those who weren’t there,” the series aims to reveal that the past is shaped not only by facts but also by emotions and interpretations. It has also been confirmed that an unexpected Iron Fist will be appearing on the series.
The voice cast includes Winnie Harlow, along with Anika Noni Rose, Steve Toussaint, Patricia Belcher, and Cress Williams. Eyes of Wakanda will be available to stream on Disney+ on August 1st, with four half-hour episodes.
