First Images of Hunger Games Prequel Arrive

The countdown has begun for Hunger Games fans. As the new film in the series, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, prepares for release in 2026, the first images from the set have emerged. The images, shared on TikTok, captured the first look of veteran actor Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow. The iconic character, played by Donald Sutherland, is set to return to the big screen, this time with a more grim and militaristic appearance.

First Details from Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping

The new film will shed light on Panem’s past and take audiences back twenty-four years to the story of Katniss Everdeen. Sunrise on the Reaping centers on the fiftieth Hunger Games, the Second Quarter Massacre. In this special year, four tributes are chosen from each district instead of two, making the games even bloodier than usual.

The story centers on Haymitch Abernathy, a young boy chosen from District 12. Forced to participate in the games as a youth, Haymitch will learn not only to survive but also to resist the Capitol’s cruelty. The film will reveal previously untold details about the character’s past.

The poster, featuring Ralph Fiennes as Snow, is quite striking, as is the cast. Stars such as Joseph Zada, McKenna Grace, Whitney Peak, Jesse Plemons, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Elle Fanning, Kieran Culkin, Lili Taylor, Billy Porter, and Glenn Close star in the film.

The film, adapted from Suzanne Collins’ book of the same name, is directed by Francis Lawrence, a familiar face in the series. Billy Ray, who previously worked on The Hunger Games, wrote the screenplay. Lionsgate plans to release the film on November 20, 2026.

While the first released images have created great excitement among fans of the series, it seems certain that Sunrise on the Reaping will make a dark and intense return to the Hunger Games universe.
