First Photos Released from DCU Clayface Movie
Clayface has become one of the DCU’s most notable new projects. Leaked photos released to the press as filming preparations continue in Liverpool offer both details about the Gotham universe and strong clues about the characters. Fans are already starting to theorize about these images.
First Clues from the Clayface Set
Photos released during preparations in Liverpool show Gotham newspapers preparing for the scene. The Gotham Gazette cover, featuring Jimmy “Red” McCoy, is particularly striking. McCoy, known as a small-time criminal in the comics, is not expected to feature prominently in the film, but this detail is rumored to hint at a larger mob story.
The images also featured a figure with a distinct facial deformity or wearing a mask. This shot was interpreted by many fans as the first glimpse of Matt Hagen, Clayface’s true identity. While rumors that Tom Rhys Harries would play the role have grown, the unclear text has further fueled the excitement.
The cast also includes notable names like Naomi Ackie and Max Minghella. Ackie is known to play Caitlin Bates, while Minghella plays her fiancĂ©, John. The film will tell the story of an actor whose face has been disfigured by gangsters and who seeks a cure through a risky experiment. The experiment’s failure will trigger Clayface’s terrifying transformation.
Directed by James Watkins, the film is also produced by James Gunn, Peter Safran, and Matt Reeves. Written by Mike Flanagan, the film will feature body horror elements. Drawing inspiration from Cronenberg’s The Fly and recent notable films like The Substance, Clayface will be the DCU’s next entry into the horror genre. The film’s release date is September 11, 2026.
