Former WoW Developer Reveals Secret to Steam Success
Former World of Warcraft developer Chris Kaleiki is returning to the gaming world with his new game Legacy: Steel & Sorcery. However, Kaleiki says that nowadays, making a good game is enough for a game to be successful. Kaleiki, who states that the Steam algorithm is “impenetrable,” emphasizes that the most important way to stand out on this platform is to develop a game that players will truly love. So, what does Kaleiki say about his experiences on this subject and his new game?
The Secret to Success on Steam is Making a Good Game
Chris Kaleiki has designed classes for World of Warcraft for 13 years. Now, he is preparing to launch with his new company, Notorious Studios. Kaleiki explains the secret to success on major platforms like Steam as follows: “Valve does a very good job of highlighting games that players truly love. You can’t hack the algorithm. All you really have to do is make a good game.”
Kaleiki adds that game marketing has changed today and developers have difficulty marketing due to budget constraints. However, he states that the real work is in the game itself, saying, “Many indie developers are trying to overcome the algorithm, but this is not possible. Now, the only solution is to deliver a quality game.”
Kaleiki’s new game, Legacy: Steel & Sorcery, stands out as a PvPvE RPG and will be available for early access on Steam on February 12. The feedback from the game’s first alpha tests is quite positive. Kaleiki states that some players played the game for more than 60 hours in weekly tests, and says that this proves that there is interest in the game.
With the increasing number of games recently, it has become even more difficult to stand out on platforms like Steam. However, Chris Kaleiki’s words give a simple but effective message to game developers who want to be successful: “No cheating, no algorithm games. Just make a good game.” It is eagerly awaited to see how successful Legacy: Steel & Sorcery will be with this philosophy.
