Forza Horizon 5 Challenges the Top on PS5
Forza Horizon 5, which had a large fan base even while exclusive to the Xbox platform, reached an even wider audience with its release on PlayStation 5. Released digitally in April 2025, the game quickly garnered significant attention, rivaling PlayStation exclusives.
Forza Horizon 5 Surpasses 2 Million Sales on PS5
Playground Games’ Forza Horizon 5 has surpassed 2 million sales on PS5 in just one month. This information was confirmed by former Turn 10 designer Harrison Bolin, who shared his resume on LinkedIn following Microsoft’s recent layoffs. Bolin stated, “I designed the cross-platform features for the PS5 version of Forza Horizon 5. That version sold 2 million copies in one month.”
The sales success was achieved despite the game being available only digitally through the PlayStation Store. This demonstrated the game’s significant popularity even without physical sales. Furthermore, the sales figures, which were closely matched by Sony’s acclaimed Astro Bot franchise, were noteworthy.
Despite this success, there are turmoil at Microsoft. The 9,000 layoffs, including the Turn 10 team, have led to the relegation of Forza Motorsport. The company is reportedly shifting its focus from racing games to the Horizon series.
All these developments demonstrate how profitable porting Xbox exclusives to PlayStation can be. However, the impact of these layoffs also increases uncertainty for many developers in the industry.
