Geralt Responds to Those Against Ciri in Witcher 4
The selection of Ciri as the lead character in Witcher 4 was welcomed by some players, but it also received criticism, especially regarding the absence of Geralt. However, Doug Cockle, who voiced Geralt, openly stated that he found these reactions “absurd” and said that he supported expanding Ciri’s story.
Ciri is the Main Character in Witcher 4
The Witcher 4 was announced with a dark cinematic trailer released at The Game Awards last year. The trailer showed Ciri standing out as a Witcher for the first time on her own, and CD Projekt Red confirmed that Ciri would be the main character this time. However, some groups criticized the absence of Geralt, and “woke” reactions spread on social media.
Geralt’s voice actor Doug Cockle gave a clear response to these reactions. Cockle, who read the fan comments in a video prepared by Fall Damage, addressed those who made negative comments against Ciri and said, “This is ridiculous. This has nothing to do with being ‘woke’.” Cockle emphasized that the Witcher universe will be even richer with strong characters like Ciri.
Doug Cockle also reminded that Geralt’s story had already been completed with the Blood & Wine expansion pack. Cockle said, “It would be unfair to both the character and the actor to confine Geralt to the same story forever,” and said that the studio made the right choice. He added that everyone who reads the Witcher books will understand this direction.
Cockle stated that focusing on Ciri’s story was exciting and said, “I congratulate Ciri. I also support her being the main character. We could not use her full potential in Witcher 3. Now it is time to experience this world through her eyes.”
It was announced that Witcher 4 entered full production at the end of 2024. The game is not expected to be released before 2027. However, as Doug Cockle pointed out, this time a different and previously unexplored story will be waiting for players.
