Geralt’s Voice Was Changing in Witcher 2
The iconic voice of the Witcher series, Doug Cockle, has made a name for himself in the gaming world with his role as Geralt of Rivia. However, Cockle’s reprisal of the role in Witcher 2 was jeopardized by CD Projekt Red’s decision to try a different direction. Cockle revealed that he learned about the situation from another voice actor and had to re-audition. Fortunately, Cockle was successfully re-auditioned and continued as the voice of Geralt.
A Different Direction Was Planned for Geralt in Witcher 2
Doug Cockle revealed that he contacted CD Projekt Red after learning that a friend of his had auditioned for the role of Geralt in Witcher 2. Cockle said, “I don’t know why you’re re-auditioning, but I’d like to be re-evaluated,” and approached the studio. CD Projekt Red expressed that they wanted to try a “completely different direction” for the character of Geralt, but that idea was shelved after Cockle was re-cast.
Cockle continued to voice Geralt in Witcher 2 in a similar way to the first game. Although CD Projekt Red’s “different direction” plan has not been fully explained, Cockle’s performance has been widely appreciated by fans.
Doug Cockle’s voice tone for Geralt has become as iconic as the character’s white hair and dual swords. This uncertainty in Witcher 2 turned out positively thanks to Cockle’s talent. Although there are rumors that Geralt’s story may end in Witcher 4, Cockle’s voice has already made its mark in gaming history.
This incident behind the scenes of Witcher 2 once again shows how important it is to choose the right actor in the gaming world.
