Ghost of Yōtei Developer Watched From Hotel Room
As excitement for Ghost of Yotei grew, a curious incident emerged. A player staying at a hotel across from the Sucker Punch studio in Washington, D.C., secretly filmed a developer at work. However, this action brought not the attention he expected, but rather harsh backlash. The fact that the footage was shared just hours before the State of Play the following day further fueled the controversy.
Ghost of Yotei Footage Sparks Backlash
A short video shared on Reddit showed a developer from the Sucker Punch team working on Ghost of Yotei. It was reported that the video was secretly recorded from a hotel window and taken from one of the rooms overlooking City Center Plaza, where the studio is located. However, the post was quickly deleted.
When the user didn’t receive the expected attention, the comments quickly turned negative. While many emphasized the need to respect developers’ privacy, others described the move as “strange” and “disturbing.” Sarcastic remarks like, “This is a game developer working in their studio, not big news,” also drew attention.
One user explained that they work in the gaming industry and shared that some studios have had to cover their windows or block their skylights due to similar situations. He added that infiltration attempts using drones and fire escapes have also occurred in the past.
This incident, which occurred just hours before Ghost of Yotei’s launch, once again reminded the public of the importance of privacy in the gaming world. While players’ excitement is understandable, most agree that such methods are wrong.
