Giant World of Warcraft Server Sued

For years, World of Warcraft players have been dissatisfied with the changes to the official version, leading them to turn to dedicated servers that offer different experiences. These servers have become an escape for those who want to stick to classic gameplay and provide an alternative space for the community. However, a lawsuit filed by Blizzard has now seriously brought the future of this alternative world into question.

World of Warcraft Lawsuit

Blizzard has filed a lawsuit in California against the developers of Turtle WoW, a private server. The company claims the server disconnects players from the official game and infringes on their copyrights. Blizzard’s complaint states that Turtle WoW “clearly offers pirated content” and “severely divides” the community.

Turtle WoW offered players a unique experience with its slow progression and additional quest zones. Players chose this server to avoid the easy leveling features and commercial systems like WoW tokens, which were criticized in the official version. However, according to Blizzard, this initiative has become a serious threat, leading to years of lost revenue.

The lawsuit alleges not only copyright infringement but also RICO, a US organized crime law. This accusation places Turtle WoW’s activities under even more stringent legal framework. Blizzard is seeking both monetary damages and the server’s termination in the lawsuit.

A developer with the nickname “Torta” from the Turtle WoW team stated on Discord that they will not back down. Addressing the community with the words, “Turtle WoW is here to stay,” the team emphasized their commitment to preserving the experience they have provided for years. This showdown marks a new turning point in the World of Warcraft world.
