Godzilla Minus One 2 Filming Begins, Release Date: 2026

It has been announced that filming for Godzilla Minus One 2 will begin on August 30, 2025. This information, shared at the “Godzilla at 70” panel at San Diego Comic-Con, suggests a 2026 release date for the sequel. Currently, the production is being titled “Super Blockbuster Monster Movie,” but Yamazaki’s involvement in the project further fuels expectations.

The first film, shot in 2023 with a budget of $15 million, received significant worldwide acclaim and won the Best Visual Effects award at the 2024 Oscars. Following this success, fans frequently expressed their desire for a sequel on social media. The producers responded to this enthusiasm and decided to expand the franchise.

In his speech on the Oscars, Takashi Yamazaki emphasized how meaningful it was for them to achieve this success as a team outside of Hollywood. The director expressed his feelings by saying, “We stepped into the ring like Rocky Balboa, we were accepted as equals. It was a miracle to be nominated anyway. But now we’re here.”

Yamazaki also stated that Godzilla has opened many new doors through this project. He added that he doesn’t yet know where these doors will lead, saying, “I don’t want to turn my back on any opportunity,” offering hope for the future of the franchise. All eyes are now on the sequel, which will be released in theaters in 2026.
