Gray Zone Warfare Is No Longer an Extraction Shooter

The long-standing confusion about the genre of Gray Zone Warfare has finally been clarified. With the latest statement from MADFINGER Games, it was announced that the game is no longer in the extraction shooter category. With this new definition, players will now be in a very different experience.

Gray Zone Warfare is Now an MMOFPS

During the game’s release, the development team stated that Gray Zone Warfare was not an extraction shooter. However, with the updates made in the following period and feedback from the community, the game has moved closer to this category. Now, with the “Winds of War” update, MADFINGER Games clearly states that Gray Zone Warfare is now a tactical MMOFPS.

With the new update, players no longer have to return to base. Missions can now be completed and delivered in the field. This allows players to spend more time in the game’s open world and stay in constant interaction. According to producer Rick Lagnese, Gray Zone Warfare is no longer a game where you complete individual missions and return to base; it is a fight for survival in a living, breathing world.

The game’s core structure is still based on PvPvE. The massive open-world map called Lamang features exploration, combat, and looting dynamics after helicopter landings. However, players are now constantly moving around the map, moving between bases, and experiencing more PvP encounters.

Thanks to the new content, players can stay in the field for longer and have access to advanced equipment. There is still a risk of losing everything with a single bullet in the game, but this risk is part of the tension and realism that the game offers. Players are now looking for ways to be part of an ever-changing world rather than completing isolated missions.

MADFINGER Games’ approach is to give Gray Zone Warfare a unique structure with its own dynamics rather than confining it to a specific genre. According to the studio, this game is no longer an extraction shooter; it is an MMOFPS that lives and evolves in its own universe and constantly keeps players engaged.
