Grogu and the Mandalorian Trailer Draws Backlash
The Star Wars universe is preparing to return to theaters after a long hiatus with the film Grogu and the Mandalorian. Directed by Jon Favreau and co-written with Dave Filoni, the film will tell the new adventures of Grogu alongside Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin. However, the first trailer, unlike the anticipated excitement, has sparked considerable debate.
The Grogu and the Mandalorian Trailer Failed to Create the Expected Impact
Disney’s eagerly anticipated Grogu and the Mandalorian trailer received mixed reactions from viewers. Many Star Wars fans argued that the footage resembled a run-of-the-mill episode of the series rather than a feature film. Comments on social media emphasized that the trailer’s visuals were not strong enough and lacked the cinematic quality of a film.
One of the criticisms leveled at the trailer concerned its tone and scale. Some viewers noted that it felt like a “filler episode” rather than a film, while industry insider Daniel Richtman commented, “The trailer feels like a TV series episode brought to the big screen.” Similarly, MyTimeToShineHello expressed disappointment, saying, “It looks like a long and boring episode; it’s not a good trailer.”
While the trailer received overwhelmingly negative reviews, some did appreciate it. The scenes featuring Grogu and the new creatures in particular excited some fans. Posts like “This movie is going to be epic” and “I think it looks pretty cool” also attracted attention on social media.
Grogu and the Mandalorian is considered one of Lucasfilm’s major investments. Produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni, the film is set for release on May 22, 2026. The Star Wars universe will return to the big screen a year later with Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy.
