GTA 4 Remaster Should Happen But This Time It Should Be Better
Fans of the Grand Theft Auto series have been waiting for a modern remaster of GTA 4 for a long time. Former Rockstar developer Obbe Vermeij said in a statement that he supports this demand, but that if a remaster is to be made, it should be of the highest quality. Vermeij stated that reviving GTA 4 with its deep story and impressive gameplay would be a great opportunity, but that lessons should be learned from previous failed remasters.
GTA 4 Remaster Should Be Higher Quality
Rockstar had previously been heavily criticized for the Definitive Editions it released for GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas. Many bugs and insufficient graphical improvements had caused disappointment among fans. For this reason, it is frequently stated that a possible remaster for GTA 4 should not repeat the same mistakes. Vermeij drew attention to the expectations by saying, “If Rockstar does this job right, fans would prefer an official remaster over mods.”
These statements come after Take-Two Interactive took a tough stance against fan-made mods. The company had removed fan-made mods that combined GTA 4 and Vice City on copyright grounds. However, this caused a backlash from fans, with criticisms such as “We’re doing what Rockstar didn’t do.”
Released in 2008, GTA 4 established a different place in the series with its dark and realistic tone. Niko Bellic’s story was widely praised for providing players with deep character development and an impressive New York-like open world. However, the game’s PC port was noted for optimization issues, negatively affecting many players’ experiences. Therefore, there is a great expectation that GTA 4 will be presented in the way it deserves with a modern remaster.
“If Rockstar is considering remastering an iconic game like GTA 4, it should take this responsibility seriously,” Vermeij said, adding that the company needs to regain the trust of fans. This time around, players want to see a remaster that features fully enhanced graphics, smooth gameplay, and preserves the spirit of the original game.
