GTA 5 Overtakes Next-Gen Games in Sales
While the countdown to GTA 6 continues, the sales of the previous installment of the series, GTA 5, are still at an impressive level. The game, which was released in 2013, reached sales figures that many new games cannot reach in their entire lifetimes, according to the data from the last quarter.
GTA 5 Reaches Historical Peak with Total Sales of 215 Million
According to the latest financial report of Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive, GTA 5 has sold a total of 215 million units to date. This figure means an increase of five million in the last quarter alone. Sales increases of five million per quarter were also reported in February and November of 2024. The fact that a game released twelve years ago is still receiving this level of attention is considered an unprecedented success in the industry.
In the United States, GTA 5 holds the title of the best-selling game of the last decade. The game’s constant updates and the liveliness of its online mode play an important role in this success. In addition, the intense interest in GTA 6 has also brought a general movement to the series. While explaining the impact of the game, Take-Two also emphasized that the new promotional video reached 475 million views in 24 hours.
Not only the GTA series, but also Rockstar’s Red Dead brand is drawing a good graph. The series has exceeded the 100 million sales threshold in total. However, the biggest expectation of fans is for a 60 FPS update to be released, especially for the second game. The success of GTA 5 brings these demands back to the agenda.
