GTA 6 Fears Make Game Publishers Uneasy
The new Grand Theft Auto series game, GTA 6, continues to deeply affect the gaming industry even before it has been released. According to a report by Jason Schreier from Bloomberg, many major game publishers are refusing to set release dates for their games due to fears of conflict with GTA 6.
GTA 6 Competitors on Hold
Take-Two Interactive’s November earnings report stated that GTA 6 will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in the fall of 2025. However, considering that every major open-world game from Rockstar Games in the last 20 years has been delayed at least once, there is a possibility that GTA 6 will also be delayed. This uncertainty is making rival publishers nervous.
According to Schreier’s sources, some major publishers want to see if GTA 6 will actually be released in the fall of 2025 and not be pushed to 2026. For this reason, they are avoiding announcing a release date in order to keep their own games’ launch dates as far away from GTA 6 as possible.
In the gaming world, it is not new for major productions to adjust their launch dates according to competition. Last year, Baldur’s Gate 3 moved its full release on PC from August 31 to August 3 in order not to clash with major games such as Starfield.
On the other hand, Rockstar Games won the Most Anticipated Game award at the Golden Joystick Awards held last month. Accepting the award, Rockstar official David Manley promised that there would be “absolutely mind-blowing things” in GTA 6. In addition, YouTuber Dark Space recreated the game’s map on GTA 5 based on the trailer and leaks of GTA 6. All these developments are increasing the excitement around GTA 6 even more.
