GTA 6: Warning from Former Rockstar Developer
A former Rockstar developer who worked on the Grand Theft Auto series has warned gamers that GTA 6 may not make the big leap that was expected.
GTA 6: May Fall Short of Expectations
With the reveal trailer for GTA 6 and the hype that followed, the gaming world is eagerly awaiting the GTA 6 release date. However, a former Rockstar developer predicts that some fans “may be disappointed on day one” as he doesn’t expect the experience of GTA 6 to be “wildly different” from GTA 5.
Obbe Vermeij, who worked for Rockstar between 1995 and 2009 on classic titles like GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas and GTA 4, said in a new podcast that while many aspects of GTA 6 will be bigger and better, it won’t make the big leap that many had hoped. “Basically it looks like they’ve taken GTA 5 even further, doesn’t it?” Vermeij said, ”The scene that surprised me is the scene on the beach where everyone seems to be doing something else, where each character has their own animation. I think that looks pretty cool. But I don’t think it’s going to be wildly different from GTA 5. I think people might be a little bit disappointed on day one. But it’s still going to be the best game out there.”
Vermeij notes that the size of the technological leap between console generations was a big factor in GTA 6 not seeing a seismic shift compared to GTA 5. He adds that GTA 6 prioritized the console audience when it was released and that the PC version will come at a later date.
While Vermeij says he has “no inside information” on the development of GTA 6, he does have a lot of knowledge about the way Rockstar works. Vermeij, who has worked for Rockstar in the past and has detailed his time at the studio, finally revealed why one of GTA San Andreas’ most bizarre in-game events took place, and began blogging about the development process of old Rockstar games. However, after complaints from his former employer, he removed most of the content from the blog and stopped posting to it.
