Hasbro In No Rush For Baldur’s Gate 4
Released in 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been a huge commercial success for Larian Studios and Dungeons & Dragons rights holder Hasbro. The game has received critical acclaim from players and critics worldwide, garnering numerous awards and accolades. However, despite the increased expectations for Baldur’s Gate 4 following this success, it has been announced that Hasbro is not rushing into this matter.
Larian Studios Stepping Away from Baldur’s Gate Series
Larian Studios has announced that it has begun working on two new projects after Baldur’s Gate 3. However, it has been stated that these projects will be the studio’s own intellectual properties and will be developed as independent productions from the Baldur’s Gate series. This decision by Larian means that it may leave the future of the series to Hasbro and other potential developers.
Hasbro’s Senior Vice President of Digital Games Dan Ayoub made statements about the future of the Baldur’s Gate series at the GDC event held in San Francisco. Ayoub said, “We are shaping our plans for what we will do in the future and we will start sharing some things about that soon.” However, Ayoub emphasized that they are not rushing Baldur’s Gate 4 and are progressing their plans “in a measured way.”
Although there is no clear timetable for Baldur’s Gate 4, it is known that Hasbro is working on other Dungeons & Dragons games. Ayoub stated that these projects offer opportunities to raise the creative bar even higher. Following the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, Hasbro plans to collaborate with different studios to develop new games based on the Dungeons & Dragons universe.
Hasbro’s lack of haste has caused mixed reactions among Baldur’s Gate fans. However, the company says it is waiting for the right time to develop a new game and wants to preserve the legacy of the series.
It remains unclear when Baldur’s Gate 4 will be announced, but it’s clear that fans will have a long wait ahead. Hasbro’s future plans will provide an exciting journey not only for Baldur’s Gate, but also for the Dungeons & Dragons universe.
