Have There Been Future Plans for The Last of Us?

Naughty Dog President and The Last of Us series director Neil Druckmann stated that he does not plan ahead for sequels while developing games. Speaking at the D.I.C.E. The Future of The Last of Us Series

Neil Druckmann emphasized that during the development process of a game, he only focuses on the game they are working on. Druckmann stated that he acts with the thought of “What if I don’t have a chance to make a game in the future?” and said that he does not save his current ideas for future use. However, he also admitted that new ideas come to his mind from time to time while working on The Last of Us Part 2.

This approach shows Druckmann’s efforts to “avoid repetition.” He stated that if he were to start working on a sequel, he would first prefer to examine unresolved elements of the characters’ stories. “If the answer is ‘They can’t go anywhere,’ then I would consider killing them,” Druckmann joked.

There is no clear information about the future of The Last of Us series yet. Druckmann did not give any hints about whether a new game would be added to the series. However, he had previously hinted that the story could include “another chapter.”

Naughty Dog is currently working on an entirely new project, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. This will be the studio’s first game in the science fiction genre. Whether The Last of Us series will continue remains a matter of great curiosity in the gaming world.
