Hellblade 2 was first launched in 2024, developed by Ninja Theory and published by Xbox Game Studios, and made great use of the higher budget and Unreal Engine 5 visuals to build a spectacular sequel to its 2017 predecessor, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice.
Hellblade 2 was nominated for multiple BAFTA Game Awards in 2025, securing a nod for Animation, Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, Best British Game, and recognition for Melina Juergens’s performance in the game’s leading role. Adding to its accolades, Hellblade 2 was widely praised after launch for its art direction, visuals, and sound design, while maintaining its brutality.
Announced by Ninja Theory and gaming platforms across social media, it was confirmed that Hellblade 2 was officially coming digitally to PlayStation 5 consoles on August 12. Releasing in tandem with the PS5 release on August 12 will be the game’s Enhanced edition, which offers a 60 FPS performance mode, an updated photo mode, developer commentary, and a Dark Rot challenge mode.
