Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era Early Access Delayed
The eagerly awaited Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era, a game long awaited by strategy enthusiasts, has been postponed again. Originally scheduled for early access in the second quarter of 2025, developer Unfrozen announced that the release has been postponed to 2026. While no specific date was shared, the studio stated that the delay was “necessary for a better experience.”
Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era Postponed to 2026
Announced as the eighth game in the series, Olden Era was seen as the franchise’s biggest comeback since Might & Magic Heroes VII released in 2015. First unveiled at Gamescom 2024, the game aims to maintain its classic turn-based strategy structure while bringing modern touches to the series. As part of its 30th anniversary celebrations, Ubisoft has released a demo of the game on Steam.
The game’s launch version will feature six factions: Temple, Necropolis, Sylvan, Dungeon, Hive, and Schism. It will also feature a campaign mode, random single-player maps, custom maps, local multiplayer, and an online matchmaking system. For the first time in the series, global matchmaking will be added, allowing players to quickly jump into the game with other players.
Developer Unfrozen explained the delay as a quality concern: “Our goal from the beginning was to deliver a truly unique Heroes experience. However, this process requires time, care, and repetition. As an independent studio, we need a little more time to get the early access version ready.”
This statement echoes a similar announcement the studio made last June. At that time, the team delayed the game to “later 2025.” Now, the delay has been pushed to 2026, reshaping expectations.
Still, it seems fans won’t be left completely unfulfilled. The demo, released on Steam, offers players a chance to try out the game’s core mechanics. In this way, strategy fans will be able to get an early look at the atmosphere and gameplay of Olden Era.
