Hideo Kojima Announces Death Stranding Anime
Hideo Kojima, who brought a different breath to the gaming world with Death Stranding, is now bringing the project together with another medium. In an interview with Vogue Japan, he announced that in addition to the live-action film adaptation, an anime work for Death Stranding is also ongoing. The project, which has not yet been announced for release, aims to expand the boundaries of the series even further.
Active Work on Death Stranding Anime Adaptation Continues
According to the information Kojima provided in his interview, the anime project aims to present the cinematic narrative of Death Stranding in a different way. While talking about the live-action film of the game, which is being prepared in collaboration with A24 studio, the famous director confirmed that they are also developing a production in animation format. However, no other details have been shared about the project at this stage.
Kojima states that the line between games and movies is gradually disappearing and that he wants to create a new form of narrative that brings the two together. Expressing that he wants the Death Stranding universe to serve this purpose, Kojima emphasized that the same creative teams will work on both the game and the movie. In this way, players will think that what they are watching is a movie.
There are four separate phases in the project’s long-term development plan. The first phase is defined as the creation of the IP and its spread to different platforms. The second phase includes the blurring of the boundaries between games and movies. The third phase plans to create a new media type that functions as both a game and a movie. Finally, the fourth phase aims to transform a movie-based IP back into a game.
On the other hand, it is stated that Kojima’s next big project, Physint, will not arrive before 2030. However, it is expected to come to the agenda again with new statements on the Summer Game Fest stage soon. With the Death Stranding anime, the bridge that Kojima has built between movies and games seems to become even more visible.
