Hideo Kojima Teased OD
Hideo Kojima teased some insight about OD, his next Xbox exclusive horror project, and expressed just how ambitious it is.
More OD Information from Hideo Kojima
One of the highlights at The Game Awards 2023 was the first look at Hideo Kojima’s OD, which remains the game’s only trailer so far. OD is Kojima’s first collaboration with renowned director Jordan Peele. As if this team up didn’t raise players’ expectations high enough, OD also has a star studded cast with Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier as protagonists. Though the game is confirmed to be an Xbox exclusive, neither Kojima Productions nor Xbox Game Studios have revealed further information in almost a year. However, Hideo Kojima has recently talked about his high hopes for OD.
In an interview with Variety about the Death Stranding movie, developer Hideo Kojima briefly addressed his next horror project, OD. “I wanted to do something new that wasn’t Death Stranding, so I teamed up with Microsoft to create OD. This is a game, but it’s a game like no other,” said Kojima. “I can’t go into too much detail, and it’s also hard to explain, but it’s a bit risky and a new challenge for me within the realm of games.” There were already some conjectures about OD pushing the boundaries of gaming, but now it seems Kojima himself cannot define how non traditional OD will be.
Aside from his statement on OD, the Kojima Productions leader also teased another game named “Physint.” According to Kojima, Physint is an espionage title still in the early concept stage. But just like with OD, this is likely as much as players will know about the project for the time being. Kojima Productions is committed to releasing Death Stranding in 2025, so OD might not be its top priority at the moment.
Several rumors have surrounded OD for a while now, including the speculations of it being a multiplayer experience. OD has also been compared to P.T., Kojima’s legendary demo for a Silent Hill project that never saw the light of day. But since OD is a new IP altogether, players should expect it to strongly differ from P.T. In the meantime, fans of Hideo Kojima can enjoy the most recent Death Stranding 2 footage revealed during the 2024 Tokyo Game Show, which included some interesting in game content and an impressive photo mode.
