Hideo Kojima Won’t Star in Snake Eater Remake?

Hideo Kojima, the creative mind behind the Metal Gear Solid series, gave a brief but striking answer to the question of whether he would play a remake of Snake Eater, the franchise’s signature game. In an interview with SSense, Kojima, who discussed a wide range of topics, simply laughed off the question about Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, saying, “No, I won’t.” This brief response was quite telling for fans who recalled his history with Konami.

Konami’s Remake Plans Don’t Affect Kojima

Kojima’s lack of interest in the Snake Eater remake reveals his personal distance from a project in which he was excluded from the creative process. While Konami is preparing to revive the iconic third installment with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the series creator prefers to observe the process from afar. The past split has clearly shaped Kojima’s approach to this project.

In the interview, Kojima spoke primarily about the Death Stranding series and his passion for cinema, stating that he had continued his vision despite both industry expectations and his own team’s initial skepticism. However, his refusal to mention the Metal Gear universe and his statement that he “won’t be playing” in the remake suggests that the series has finally ended in his eyes.

Kojima’s departure from Konami caused a major uproar in the gaming world. Therefore, his lack of enthusiasm or support for the remake project is not surprising. Nevertheless, some gamers continue to eagerly await the new version of Snake Eater.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater aims to reimagine the original with modern graphics. However, Kojima clearly has no intention of returning to that world. While this may be somewhat bittersweet for fans, it appears his next step will be Death Stranding 2.
