Hugh Jackman Won’t Leave His Wolverine Role

Hugh Jackman said goodbye to Wolverine with Logan — or so we thought. However, the veteran actor, who returned to the big screen with Deadpool & Wolverine, co-starring Ryan Reynolds, seems determined to keep his nails on for a while longer. According to the latest rumors from Marvel, Jackman will reprise his role in both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Hugh Jackman Could Be a Stay in the Marvel Universe

Marvel Studios is reportedly working on a new X-Men film with Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier. However, according to insiders, the studio isn’t planning to immediately reboot Wolverine in this universe. Rather, they’re aiming to keep Hugh Jackman on “a few more projects even after Secret Wars.” This almost makes Ryan Reynolds’ joke in the film, “Disney will keep you playing until you’re 90,” a reality.

Hugh Jackman Won't Leave His Wolverine Role

This strategy seems quite logical for Marvel. Wolverine has become synonymous with Jackman, and imagining him with a different face for 25 years won’t be easy for fans. Therefore, the studio aims to keep Jackman in mentor-like roles in the future, both to introduce a new generation and to maintain the connection with older audiences. This approach could also facilitate the reintegration of characters like Professor X or Magneto into the Marvel Universe alongside the previous Fox cast.

Meanwhile, the release dates for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars have been confirmed. Of the two films to be directed by the Russo brothers, Doomsday will be released on December 18, 2026, and Secret Wars on December 17, 2027. The cast includes major names such as Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston, Florence Pugh, Chris Hemsworth, Patrick Stewart, and Robert Downey Jr.

While Hugh Jackman’s return brings nostalgia and cohesion to the Marvel universe, it also carries a significant risk: the next generation of X-Men films will have to be shaped by the shadow of such a powerful figure from the past. But one thing remains: it’s still difficult to imagine anyone else as Wolverine. It seems Hugh Jackman won’t truly let go of the character until he dies.
