Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Story Details Revealed
Naughty Dog is preparing to meet gamers with its first new intellectual property (IP) in years, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. The game, which was announced at The Game Awards in December, stands out as the studio’s first step into the science fiction genre. The game’s writer and director Neil Druckmann shared the first story details about the game in a podcast broadcast he attended recently. Druckmann talked about the creation process of this new universe, which starts in an alternative history in the 1980s and takes place 2000 years later, and the basic theme of the game.

The Story of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet
Neil Druckmann explained the main focus of the game’s story, stating that they wanted players to find themselves in a lonely and chaotic world. The game’s main character, bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun, crash-lands on a planet that has not received any communication for 600 years. This planet was designed as the center of a religion and has been completely isolated from the outside world for years. Druckmann emphasized the importance of the feeling of loneliness in the game, saying, “If you want to get off this planet, you have to understand its history, the people here, and what’s going on.”
Unlike the “companion character” concept frequently seen in Naughty Dog’s previous games, this game prioritizes loneliness and uncertainty. Druckmann said that players will experience a deep exploration experience on this abandoned planet to solve the mystery behind the events.
Naughty Dog has been working on this project for four years as it steps into the science fiction genre with Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Druckmann stated that they created a two-thousand-year history while designing the game’s story and examined how religions changed and evolved during this process. He also made a humorous comment by referring to the fan reactions from Naughty Dog’s previous games, especially The Last of Us Part II, saying, “This time we chose a subject that no one would care much about: faith and religion.”
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which has not yet announced a release date, indicates that Naughty Dog will focus on its new intellectual property. The game’s creative team aims to offer players an unforgettable science fiction experience while designing this new universe.
