Is Hideo Kojima Bidding Farewell to the Gaming World?

Hideo Kojima, who has become a legend in the gaming world, is back on the agenda with his latest project Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. However, Kojima’s latest statements indicate that these successes may be coming to an end. Kojima, who has shaped the industry with the games he has developed, is now seriously considering turning to the movie industry, and the beginning of this decision may be after OD and Physint.

Hideo Kojima May Turn to Cinema After OD and Physint

In an interview with Brut Media, Kojima stated that he will re-evaluate the future of his studio after OD and the upcoming Physint are completed and that he wants to work in the movie industry. Kojima, who stated that he wanted to direct a movie especially when he was young, said that he did not want to postpone this goal, considering his changing health condition and age. He emphasized that Physint will not be released before 2030 and that he will be 66 years old at that time.

It has been reported that the OD project is currently continuing in collaboration with Xbox and continues to receive funding despite the layoffs. The possibility of Kojima ending his game development career after the OD project is completed is growing stronger. However, instead of completely retreating into the corner, it seems that he will continue his creativity in a different field.

Kojima’s contributions to the game world will not end here. The famous developer announced that he saves all his creative ideas on a USB memory stick and entrusts this memory to his assistant. This document serves as a digital testament in terms of keeping his ideas alive and perhaps turning into new projects in the future.

Although it is sad that Hideo Kojima is nearing the end of his game development career, his turning to a different field of art may be exciting for many fans. Moreover, his passion for cinema was already felt in the narrative power of the games he developed up until this point. In other words, Kojima is not leaving the stage, he is just changing backstage.
