Is the Switch 2 Pro Controller a Money Trap?
The Pro Controller, introduced alongside Nintendo’s next-generation console, the Switch 2, initially attracted attention with its high-quality construction. However, an analysis by technical expert iFixit revealed that the device’s design made it nearly impossible to repair. The review found that the controller’s design made internal components difficult to access, and the repair process presented significant challenges for users.
Why is the Switch 2 Pro Controller Being Criticized?
According to details shared by iFixit, the screws hidden beneath the controller’s outer casing cause initial difficulties for users. Opening the device requires removing the adhesive surfaces, and reassembly requires special adhesive, further complicating the repair process.
These challenges aren’t limited to the external design. It’s been stated that removing the controller’s analog sticks requires significant pressure. This makes long-term replacements virtually impossible.
Battery access poses another significant problem. A simple battery replacement requires completely disassembling the device, which is often a difficult process for inexperienced users. iFixit describes battery accessibility as “unnecessarily complex.”
Based on all these considerations, iFixit openly states that it finds the Switch 2 Pro Controller’s design unfriendly. Critics have described the fact that a device launched with a high price tag is so difficult to repair as a costly replacement trap.
