Is There a New Peacemaker Movie Coming?

Peacemaker is set to return to screens with its second season at the end of this month. The foul-mouthed anti-hero, played by John Cena, entered the DC cinematic universe in 2021 with James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad and quickly attracted attention. Now, all eyes are on whether the character will once again star in the big screen.

Possibility of a Peacemaker Film

James Gunn did not directly answer a question at a press conference about whether Peacemaker would appear in a new DCU film. Gunn stated that he knew the answer but couldn’t reveal it, jokingly stating that he was keeping quiet “to avoid getting punished by Peter Safran.” While this wasn’t a definitive confirmation, the fact that it wasn’t an outright denial either strengthened the possibility among fans.

Following The Suicide Squad, the character appeared in his own series, primarily streaming on HBO Max. There’s speculation that Peacemaker could play a larger role in the reshaping structure of the DCU if he stars in a new film. His appearance in the first Justice League-style film, in particular, has become one of the most prominent fan theories.

Peacemaker’s second season will both continue the previous story and directly connect to James Gunn’s Superman film. It’s rumored that the series will feature members of the Justice Gang, as well as some guest characters critical to the future of the DCU. The lack of a pre-release preview of the final three episodes further fuels expectations of a potential major cameo.

The new season will premiere on HBO Max on August 21st. After that date, more definitive information about Peacemaker’s role in the universe and a potential film project may emerge. Gunn’s comments, which have already fueled speculation, have heightened excitement about the character’s future.
