It All Begins Again with IT: Welcome to Derry
Pennywise, the symbol of fear, returns this fall. The story, set in the universe of Stephen King’s cult novel IT and garnering a large fan base with two successful films, is now delving deeper with the series IT: Welcome to Derry. HBO announced the series will premiere in October. The new trailer, released at San Diego Comic-Con, teases both familiar horror and new threats.
IT: Welcome to Derry Series Premieres in October
A joint production of HBO and Warner Bros. Television, IT: Welcome to Derry is based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name and expands upon the universe of the films directed by Andy Muschietti. The first season will consist of nine episodes, with Andy Muschietti directing four of them. The Muschiettis also serve as producers, along with Jason Fuchs.
In the trailer, Bill Skarsgård reprises his role as Pennywise. However, it appears his screen time will be limited for now. This decision by HBO may have been a deliberate decision to preserve the series’ surprises. Skarsgård says he was initially hesitant to revive the character, but agreed to the project due to his connection to the team. He also hints that we’ll be introduced to a different side of Pennywise this time around.
The series will take viewers to the town of Derry in the 1960s. Focusing on the period before the Vulture team’s disappearance, this prequel will explore Pennywise’s rise, the origins of evil in the town, and darker elements we haven’t seen before. The trailer also hints at the presence of another sinister force besides Pennywise.
Starring Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, Rudy Mancuso, and Bill Skarsgård, the series looks set to dominate the Halloween season. If you are a fan of the IT universe, it would be a good idea to mark October on your calendar.
