IT: Welcome to Derry Trailer Released
Adapted from Stephen King’s iconic novel, the IT universe is returning, this time in a series format. The first trailer for IT: Welcome to Derry, which will be released on HBO Max in the fall, has met with viewers. While the trailer opens the door to a new era with familiar horror elements, the threatening presence of Pennywise lurking in the shadows also draws attention. The story, set in the 1960s, is about a group of children fighting against supernatural evil in their town and maintains the dark atmosphere we know from the previous films.
Pennywise Returns in the 60s This Time in IT: Welcome to Derry
The series, created by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs, focuses on events that took place before the movie adaptations. Instead of the 1950s and 1980s, the 1960s are chosen this time, and the story shows a group of children trying to resist the terror of Pennywise. Pennywise, played by Bill Skarsgård and briefly seen towards the end of the trailer, is kept largely in the dark while maintaining his classic appearance, suggesting that the series aims to slowly build tension.
The series carries the creative vision of Andy Muschietti, who achieved great success with the films IT and IT: Chapter Two. Muschietti is directing four episodes of the nine-episode series this time. It is reported that author Stephen King also approved the project and liked the first drafts of the script. Muschietti says that King trusts the creative process of the series and follows the work with pleasure.
The series, produced by HBO and Warner Bros. Television, includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, Rudy Mancuso and Bill Skarsgård. The script for the first episode of the series was written by Jason Fuchs, while Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane serve as co-showrunners.
Based on King’s novel, IT: Welcome to Derry aims to offer a fresh narrative to horror enthusiasts by combining both familiar and new horror elements. IT: Welcome to Derry will be released on the HBO Max platform in the fall of 2025. The trailer has already attracted great attention.
