It’s the End of the Road for PlayStation 4
The end of the road is beginning to appear for the PlayStation 4, once a staple. Next-generation games, including major titles like Battlefield 6 and Madden NFL 26, are no longer available on the PS4. While developers and publishers are gradually saying goodbye to the console, PS5 players are enthusiastically welcoming these decisions. Those who argue that older hardware is the biggest obstacle to performance believe the transition is finally complete.
Developers Drop PS4 Support, Players Are Happy
While the PS4 hasn’t been officially declared defunct, game studios have begun effectively ending support. The rumor that Battlefield 6 wouldn’t be coming to the PS4 quickly spread among gamers as if it were confirmed. While EA hasn’t yet made an official statement, the lack of a platform listing on the game’s PlayStation Store page reinforces this claim. Similarly, Madden NFL 26 will be the first EA sports game to bypass the PS4 and Xbox One this year.
While these developments may upset some PS4 users, PS5 owners are quite comfortable. Many gamers believe that PS4 support is restricting PS5 games and preventing them from reaching their full potential. One user on the platform X (formerly Twitter) reacted to this by saying, “Trying to adapt to lower-end hardware limits the game.” Another expressed the same expectation for Black Ops 7, saying, “CoD should also drop PS4 support now.”
Similar comments are also prevalent on forums like Reddit. Users believe that the continued release of last-gen consoles is undermining the next-gen gaming experience. According to some comments, “The excitement for this generation of consoles has been significantly dulled compared to previous generations,” and this is primarily due to the fact that games are still being developed for the previous generation.
On the other hand, some industry observers argue that the failure of the next-gen consoles to make the expected impact is not only due to technical shortcomings but also to creative shortcomings. The scarcity of new IPs and the infrequent release schedules are also contributing factors to player dissatisfaction. It seems it’s time to say goodbye to the PS4. Now the focus is on PS5 and beyond.
