The production team is looking for a British actor in their late 20s or early 30s. With this casting, it appears the book is closed for potential contenders like Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, Henry Cavill, or Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Clues to the character’s origins are also quite striking. Steven Knight, who penned the script, is said to adhere more closely to Ian Fleming’s novels. Fleming’s portrayal of Bond is described as a “brute force”—tough, cold-blooded, and lethal when necessary. This suggests the new Bond will be younger, more ruthless, and more true to his roots.
Another emerging detail is that the film may focus on Bond’s life before joining MI6. Revealing his past in the Royal Navy and his path to 007 status could introduce audiences to a side of the character they’ve never seen. This would both offer an opportunity to reboot the series and promise viewers a completely new beginning.
Diversity is also reportedly on the table for casting. Sources indicate that Bond’s ethnicity could be tailored to suit the story. However, one thing is certain: the new Bond must be younger, more dynamic, and exude a “lethal” energy from the moment he steps onto the stage.
