Julia Garner Responds to Silver Surfer Backlash
As the countdown continues for Marvel’s highly anticipated film “Fantastic Four: First Steps,” Julia Garner, who will portray the Silver Surfer, responded to comments about her role. Speaking at the London premiere, the renowned actress discussed both her approach to the character and the voice that went viral on social media.
Julia Garner Speaks Out About Her Role for the First Time
Speaking to the BBC, Julia Garner revealed that she plays Shalla-Bal, the female version of the Silver Surfer. “I said, ‘I’m going to do what I do,'” the actress explained, explaining that she wasn’t focused on the backlash. Garner emphasized that she had been confused with Norrin Radd, the male version played by Doug Jones and Laurence Fishburne in previous films, and that this character is, in fact, a different character.
The actress, who said she was initially surprised to be cast as Shalla-Bal in the film, stated that she wasn’t very familiar with the character before joining the project. However, she later explained that she delved deeply into the comics and prepared for the project accordingly. She said she learned the details of the character, particularly during her meeting with director Matt Shakman.
In another interview with Entertainment Tonight, she spoke about her Silver Surfer voice, which has gone viral on social media. Garner, who stated that she doesn’t use TikTok, said that friends send her the videos and that she’s happy with how much interest people have shown in the character. She added that the amount of buzz surrounding her voice was unexpected for her.
The film stars Julia Garner alongside Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn. “Fantastic Four: First Steps” will be released on July 25th. While Garner is experiencing her first superhero role with this project, it’s curious what kind of impact she’ll leave on the Marvel universe.
