Just Cause Movie in the works
The Just Cause series was released on PlayStation 2 in 2006, offering players a vast open world experience. 20 years after the game, work has begun on the Just Cause movie. We believe that the movie will reflect the same atmosphere of this game, which attracted attention with its acrobatic movement mechanics, intense battle sequences and exciting story starring Rico Rodriguez.
Just Cause Movie Will Not Be The First Game-to-Movie Adaptation
Starting in 2006, the adventure continued with Just Cause 2 in 2010, Just Cause 3 in 2015 and Just Cause 4 in 2018. But the fourth game in the series received the worst reception ever. After all these years, it has been confirmed that Just Cause will be turned into a live-action movie.
Rico Rodriguez is known as one of the most skilled characters in gaming history. Equipped with innovative tools such as grappling hooks, jetpacks, wingsuits and portable rocket boosters, Rodriguez moves through a different battlefield in each game. Often tasked with working with rebels and revolutionaries to liberate nations from tyrannical dictators, Rico is referred to by gamers as a “toppler,” meaning “a leader who wants to take action and remove oppressive institutions and their symbols.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a Just Cause movie is confirmed to be in production. The license passed to Universal Pictures after changing hands several times, and given the recent success of live-action adaptations of video games, the project has been given more momentum.
Kelly McCormick and David Leitch are producing the movie. The duo will collaborate with Dmitri Johnson, Mike Goldberg and Timothy Stevenson, who worked together on Tomb Raider and Sonic the Hedgehog. The film will be directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, who recently directed Blue Beetle.
The biggest question is who will play Rico Rodriguez. Names such as Javier Bardem, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Pedro Pascal and Diego Luna are being bandied about.
