Killing Floor 3 Gets Lowest Rating of the Series

Zombie hunters have been eyeing this game for a long time. Killing Floor 3 has finally launched, but the anticipated excitement has given way to disappointment. The game, which received the lowest score in the series on Metacritic, has also been met with “mixed” reviews on Steam. This has both loyal fans and newcomers wondering: is the Killing Floor series slowly losing its identity?

Killing Floor 3 Draws Backlash: What Went Wrong?

Tripwire Interactive’s latest survival horror game, Killing Floor 3, received the lowest rating in the series on Metacritic, with only 69. The situation on Steam is even more mixed, with only 49% of user reviews positive. Considering the previous two games received “Very Positive” reviews, this result is a major disappointment for fans.

Chief among the criticisms is the belief that the game has lost its originality. While the game’s graphical style has become more sterile, bright, and more sci-fi, veterans who cherished the series’ dark, industrial atmosphere are unhappy with this change. Microtransaction systems, inadequate optimization, and mundane gameplay dynamics are particularly prominent.

While the development team has emphasized that they are attentive to player feedback since the announcement at Gamescom in the summer of 2023, the delays and additional development time following the closed beta seem to have not significantly impacted the results. Many user reviews echo similar criticisms, stating, “The visuals are okay, but the content is lacking.”

Still, hope isn’t lost. Positive reviews highlight the game’s potential. It’s suggested that Killing Floor 3 could recover over time if the developers take the right steps with updates. However, at this point, the game neither embodies the spirit of the series nor lives up to its status as a next-generation sequel.

I've been playing Survival Horror Games since my childhood. My favorite is Resident Evil. I also love other game genres such as Hack & Slash. I love creating all kind of contents for video games.
