Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link Canceled
Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link, which was expected to be the mobile link of the Kingdom Hearts series, was first announced in 2022. Developed by Square Enix with GPS-based gameplay, the game would work with a map system similar to Pokémon GO and offer content based on real-world locations. However, the project, which was postponed many times, was completely canceled on the grounds that it could not meet the expectations of the players. This decision came as a big surprise to the fans of the series.
Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link Development Process Completely Ended
Square Enix announced in its official statement that the Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link project will no longer be developed. The company justified the cancellation of the game by saying, “We decided that it would be difficult to provide a satisfactory service to the players in the long term.” Many closed beta tests were conducted during the development phase and feedback was received from the players. However, it is understood that the desired level was not reached as a result of these tests.
The development process of Missing-Link took about six years, and during this process, there was serious anticipation among players. The game would offer a transition story between the major parts of the series, and would especially pave the way for Kingdom Hearts IV. However, Square Enix accepted that this project could not deliver the expected quality and decided to cancel it. This situation may also indicate that the company has decided to focus on bigger projects.
The company did not leave Kingdom Hearts fans completely hopeless. In the same statement, it stated that work on Kingdom Hearts IV continues unabated. New information is expected to be shared for this new main game soon. Square Enix thanked players for their support, and also gave hopeful messages for the future of the series.
The cancellation of Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link stands out as an example of the “live service” problems frequently encountered in the mobile gaming world. It is not always easy for developers to provide a sustainable experience. However, it seems that players will now have their eyes on Kingdom Hearts IV. Square Enix has high expectations for this game, and the fan base is waiting for new announcements.
