Kratos Candidates for God of War Series Revealed
The countdown has begun for Amazon Prime Video’s God of War series. Rumors that filming will begin in March 2026 have raised a single question in the gaming world: “Who will play Kratos?”
Kratos, one of the fiercest and most iconic characters in gaming since 2005, is a role heavy not only for his brawn but also for his charisma and emotional intensity. Therefore, the list of candidates has already sparked heated debate among fans.
John Campea’s Kratos Candidate List for the God of War Series
In a lengthy video, industry veteran John Campea listed the actors being considered for the role of Kratos. Here are the prominent names on the list:
- Winston Duke (Black Panther)
- Joe Manganiello (True Blood)
- Christopher Judge (God of War’un sesi)
- Manu Bennett (Spartacus)
- Jason Momoa (Aquaman)
- Travis Fimmel (Vikings)
- Olivier Richters (Black Widow)
- Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy)
Even Triple H (Paul Levesque), a wrestling sensation, has surprisingly become a hot topic.
Who’s the Fan Favorite?
Christopher Judge, who voiced Kratos in the games, has established himself as a fan favorite. However, whether he’s fit enough for live-action casting is debatable. Similar concerns surround Dave Bautista.
The “favorites” on the list are Jason Momoa, Winston Duke, and Travis Fimmel. Momoa’s selection would have been almost expected, but some fans believe that Travis Fimmel, known for his work in Vikings, would better portray Kratos’s fierceness. Winston Duke is considered a strong candidate, both physically and in terms of acting.
On the other hand, Olivier Richters, who stands over 2.13 meters tall, was deemed too “giant” and wasn’t considered a realistic choice for Kratos.
Choosing Based on Story Timeline
Another critical detail is the time period in which the series will be set. If the story depicts a young Kratos, a more athletic, younger actor might be preferred. But if the focus is on the older Kratos, a different profile might emerge.
Let’s be frank: portraying Kratos is no easy task. Simply building muscle isn’t enough; you have to be able to simultaneously convey that anger, pain, and fatherly presence. We still have Christopher Judge in our hearts, because once you hear Kratos’ voice, it’s hard to accept anyone else. But if physical realism is what’s needed in live-action, Travis Fimmel or Winston Duke seem like the most logical choices.
